European Wines and Charcuterie Campaign Launches in Beijing

Last week in Beijing marked the start of a new campaign: “THE CREATIVE REVOLUTION: European Wines and Charcuterie”.

Its first activity took place at Rosewood Beijing on 14 September. Led by PRODECA – Promotora dels aliments catalans and co-funded by the European Union, the campaign will introduce PDO wines and European charcuterie to audiences in China, Japan and South Korea, with a focus on where they come from, how they are made and the standards behind them.

The idea for the tasting was simple: put the wines and charcuterie on the same table and let the pairings do some of the explaining.
Pairing expert Guan Nawen introduced the charcuterie and prepared pa amb tomàquet to accompany the ham.

Fongyee Walker MW then explained EU Geographical Indications before guiding guests through six PDO wines: one Cava, two whites and three reds. The pairings included fuet with nuts and ham with figs and melon.

Òscar Ordeig, Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of Catalonia, closed the tasting before guests returned to the foyer for a networking cocktail. There, professional ham carver Felix ended the afternoon with a live demonstration.

Thanks to everyone on the team for the care and effort that went into making the event happen. Wine, charcuterie and good conversation made a natural combination.
