Indonesia and Vietnam Explore EU Dehydrated Fodder

September brought two groups of dairy and livestock professionals from Indonesia and Vietnam to Spain and Italy, each following a different route through the EU dehydrated fodder value chain.

The Indonesian visit ran from 5 to 12 September, followed by the Vietnamese programme from 12 to 19 September. Together, the two trips involved 16 industry professionals. Both were organised under the “EU Dehydrated Fodder from Spain and Italy” campaign, led by AEFA Asociación Española de Fabricantes de Alfalfa Deshidratada – ALFALFA SPAIN and Filiera Italiana Foraggi and co-funded by the European Union.

The Indonesian delegation began in Italy, visiting dehydration facilities and exchanging views with a Parmigiano Reggiano producer before continuing to production sites and alfalfa fields in Spain.

The Vietnamese group followed a separate route, starting with a dairy farm in Cádiz and visiting facilities and forage fields across several Spanish production regions before travelling to northern Italy.

Across the two programmes, the focus stayed practical: how forage is grown, harvested, dehydrated, tested and classified; how producers manage quality and traceability; and how dehydrated fodder is used in dairy nutrition.

Informative sessions in both countries gave participants time to discuss nutritional value, protein content, product consistency and the differences between dehydrated and sun-dried forage.

The routes were different, but they led to the same kind of exchange: direct conversations between EU producers and Southeast Asian professionals, grounded in what participants had seen in fields, factories and farms.
