Following an industry exchange visit to Europe organised by the Rabbit Industry Branch of the China Animal Agriculture Association in 2024, representatives of the Spanish Dehydrated Fodder Project, funded by ICEX and AEFA, carried out a follow-up visit in China in December 2025.
To gain first-hand insight into China’s rabbit farming, feed production and the sector’s specific needs, our team Pablo Recio Gracia, Lydia Ye and Thomas Fan came to Jiashi Muye（嘉实牧业）, a leading player in China’s rabbit industry.
We began at the feed production workshop, where strict quality control is maintained despite a high level of mechanisation. The on-site visit also covered raw material storage areas and rabbit farming facilities, offering a broader view of Jiashi Muye’s operations. During the tour, Chairman Mr Han Shouling shared practical insights into rabbit breeding practices and explained how the company works with local cooperatives and farmers.
At the roundtable discussion, Mr Han spoke about his previous visit to Spain and expressed appreciation for the quality and processing standards of Spanish dehydrated alfalfa. He highlighted the key role of alfalfa in rabbit feed and discussed its future market potential.
The visit also included the China Rabbit Culture Museum built by Jiashi. The museum introduces the origins, development and cultural role of rabbits and serves as an educational space. It also reflects the long history of rabbit culture shared by China and Spain.
The Spanish Dehydrated Fodder Project will continue to engage with industry partners, with more exchange activities planned for 2026.
