Making better use of roughage and securing a reliable supply of quality forage were central to discussions at the third Ruminant Nutrition and Feeding Technology Seminar, held in Tianjin from 16 to 18 October.
Funded by ICEX and AEFA Asociación Española de Fabricantes de Alfalfa Deshidratada – ALFALFA SPAIN, the Spanish Dehydrated Alfalfa Campaign joined that conversation in two ways: through an industry roundtable and a presentation to the wider conference.
At the roundtable, representatives of Forrajes San Mateo and Literana de Forrajes, S.A. in China brought the supplier perspective to discussions with Chinese livestock companies and ruminant nutrition researchers. The exchange explored ration management, changes in domestic and international supply, and the growing importance of consistency and availability as extreme weather and global uncertainty affect the market.
The following day, our colleague Lydia Ye represented the campaign on the main stage. She shared current developments in Spain’s dehydrated forage sector and discussed how its products can support different ruminant feeding needs. Her presentation also covered products already supplied to China, including dehydrated alfalfa hay, alfalfa pellets and dehydrated oat hay, with further products now under discussion for the Chinese market.
The direct exchange kept the campaign closely connected to China’s livestock sector, with the practical needs of farms remaining at the centre of the conversation.
